It started a long time back on juno.co.uk. Just going through a few of the music clips when I came upon Andres. I loved it the second I heard it. A few conversations with 1000FM (who clued me in on the Moodymann connection), alot of searching, and 7 or 8 Ebay auctions later (one that ended not so well). My collection is complete...........almost.


1 record. KDJ #20. It was hard for me to even find audio clips of it, let alone the mp3's, let alone the record itself. Well. If you keep searching, you shall find. Here are some really, really, really, really, rare tracks. Enjoy. But, I'm still searching for the 12".

These tracks might not be yall's thing but I wanted to share it regardless. Say what you will about Queen Latifah. Yes, she's been through many transitions over the last 15 to 20 years, for the good & the very bad, but shes still here. What other female rapper can say that? None. I never was a Queen La' fan per say, you may even find her to be laughable. But this album & these 3 tracks I do remember vividly. To me, it has it's own "Classic" status in early 90's hip hop on that Naughty By Nature tip. Go check out the music video to U.N.I.T.Y. over on mp3.com and see if it dont bring back memories. Anyone remember Rap City & Yo MTV Raps? Heh, smooth jazzy samples, great hooks, & by far the best raps from Queen La' at her lyrical peak. IMHO.

Jazzie Redd was what some consider a one hit wonder of the 90's rap game, but to locals from Houston he's a bit of a legend. He now is regularly dj's on the gospel of rap in Houston, 97.9 fm, I spent countless hours tuning in to this station during those fragile years of the early 90's race relations, drug/crime waves, and economic hardships.

From no posts for ages to a post a day all of a sudden, it should be clear to you now that we don't plan anything ;)

Here's a little set I threw together tonight with my cheap ass dollar bin records containing some Daft Crew sampled stuff. Yeah yeah I know, this ain't the smoothest mixing or whatever, but it ain't really about that, it's more or less your typical breaks mix. I allowed tracks sampled on Daft Crew labels (like Fiat Lux) in the mix for a little variaton, so you'll find a Superfunk track in it as well for example. Jay Dee Appreciation Post

I got the flu so I got plenty of time to do some blogging sitting here at home all weekend. So let's take the time to give some shine here to 'your favorite producer's favorite producer', talkin' bout J Dilla. Has this guy ever done a wack beat? I can't think of one and he's put out quite a few tracks for over more than 10 years now. The most smooth, stylish and skilled producer on the east coast in my book. Dude's put out so many dope grooves it's hard to pick one, so I picked three. I left out the biggest classics like The Pharcyde's Runnin', his tracks on Like Water For Chocolate and his Janet remix to name a few, so I hope you'll discover something new here.


Phife Dawg - Game Day

First up is a groovin' Phife Dawg track. Initially it didn't really grab me in particular to be honest, but slowly it started to get into rotation on a daily basis in my small appartment. This is kinda what happens with a lot of Jay Dee's tracks, they may sound pretty simple and straightforward at first, but they really get under your skin after a while up to the point where you're playing that shit on the daily.


Mad Skillz - It's Going Down

Second track is by Mad Skillz from his 'From Where?' album. I only recently found out this track was done by Jay Dee, but me been lovin' it long time. That simple melody that runs through the loop during the song is enchanting. Skillz is also one of my favorite mc's, kinda underrated dude.


D'Angelo - Me And Those Dreamin Eyes Of Mine (Jay Dee Remix)

We end with D'Angelo, remixed by Jay Dee. This track is smoother than smoother than smooth showing that Dilla can do more than just hiphop production. Plus a little 'get well soon'going out to D'angelo who recently was in a pretty heavy car crash (among having some other problems). Let's hope he recovers and returns to putting out his amazing music.

Lakeside - Back Together Again
Get down to this Lakeside stanker. The vocals may seem like any other funk track, but the instruments in this one is what makes it so sick. Multi baselines and stuff....it just sounds so nice. "By 1981 disco, and music in general, was changing. Lakesides 1981 release "Keep On Moving Straight Ahead" seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle. The album produced no noticeable hits and perhaps is the reason it is not available on compact disc. The group however was still a major concert draw, as they had always provided a strong live set. " pfffft, music critics......
For you house heads, check out Wize-Music The goodies section - Twice - listen. for a nice use of this work. Shouts to Wize, try to keep the underground mindset and dont go too commerical on us.

Basslines, You Gotta Love Basslines

Thelma Houston - If You Feel It

What up once again. Sorry if there is no real "point" to this post. I just enjoyed this song and wanted to guys to "smell" it too. At first glance it's just standard funky disco, but the main thing about this song I want to point out to you is the bassline. The foundation for anything that dares try and call itself funky. Tons of tracks use similar basslines to form the track around, but thats what makes this music so infectious. Listen to the intro & the break down part in the middle of the track @ 2.33. I swear someone must have farted because it's just funky in here.

For those of us who shamefully (or proudly) listen to no name German Disco House rip off tracks, you may recognize this one from Disco Diamonds Vol.2 - Track 4 (Being With You Is Ecstasy). If you have no idea what I am talking about, dont worry about it. What??? Yeah, I listen to a few of them, I wont front. Dont look at me like that....

Also, I hope you enjoy the title artwork. I was enjoying one of Thelma Houston's covers from 1981 titled (I've Got the Music in Me) which this track does not appear on, but just looks so amazing. I just had to edit it for this post. Enjoy the eye candy. Enjoy the track. For large view click here .

Hello my people. I hope you have been enjoying your summer, as it is now over. Time for school, cold weather, and American football. Look for Classictrax to make a return later this year like are name was Luke Sky Walk.

I just had to post this for you guys "Much love to Infinite Jim" "I see you Dafunkad". You guys may or may not have liked the Pansoul Version of this Motorbass Track, but the original is pure, pure, pure, pure, darn near virginal, french house. IMHO, that is. But don't you dare take my word for it. Judge for yourself.

Feel the vibes, they be bad.

As a treat, check this really, really dusty classic track from 1936. Check out the cut that Motorbass used right at the begining. Let it transport back to a time before I bet any of us where born. Stop acting like you don't love her. She's one bad black women.

Tres off......I would recomend this mans music to anyone....ANYONE!

Load this track up and hit play....and just....just...just vibe out. Feel the beat, dance, or just sit & chill. Feal the soul in the music for real. I mean...just get high off the sounds.

Allmusic.com has this to say about him.
"Not nearly as talked about and analyzed as Moodymann, his key supporter, percussionist/producer Andrés nonetheless built an extremely respectable catalog of downtempo house productions throughout the late '90s and early 2000s. Before issuing a self-titled full-length for Mahogani in 2003, he scattered a number of 12" releases for KDJ and Moods & Grooves. Andrés is also known as DJ Dez, and has released tracks under that alias on Hipnotech, in addition to collaborations with Slum Village."

Proutcast have this to say about him.
"For my personal taste, Andres has down right, without a doubt, some of the best sounds I have heard come out of the USA house scene. I first compared him to D=mon and Nicolas, some of my favorite French music makers, but now I must class him on his own. Now you might not think this song is really great or that song is really special. But, I can say with a straight face that I have NOT head one single track by him as Andres (Deep House) or DJ Drez (Hip Hop Beats) that I didn't like. And thats my word."

Side note to all you music collectors out there. If you spot the Andres full length LP or CD for a good price (or a bad one for that matter)....or any Andres on wax at all, holla at me on Soulseek or MSN. I want this guys music for my grand children lol.

Known as the funk child, Nehpets has remained a fixture of uncompromised passsion; recording on the legendary dancemania! label in Chicago to the lynch pin of Detroit, all in all str8 ghetto soul. I refuse to pin this sound down with mere words, but I will say:

Now the artist we're posting about today is one of my personal favorite musicians for sure. From his discography are just too many incredible songs to choose, so let's not attempt to do that. Besides, it's better to get briliant stuff like this on vinyl anyway.

Nah, we're just gonna present you with a little treat, a video recording of his latest performance at the North Sea Jazz festival that is going on this weekend in Holland. In the band are some of the people from the Mahogani Music crew: Andres, Piranhahead, Paul Randolph, Roberta Sweed and Nikki O.
